Completed in 2022, Aviator Park is a major industrial development adjacent to the M53 motorway and beside the Manchester Ship Canal on the Wirral. Situated within a wider established industrial setting, the development comprises over 400,000 sq. ft of industrial and logistics accommodation, between 3 high-quality units. Each unit was carefully designed to establish a distinct identity while contributing to a cohesive overall development. Consideration was given to the buildings’ form, materiality and architectural detailing to create a strong and contemporary character, enhancing the site’s visual presence whilst creating an attractive and distinctive industrial environment. The 23 acre site sits adjacent to Eastham Oil Refinery and partly within the existing COMAH Public Information Zone. The COMAH zones formed a key consideration in developing the masterplan for the site, directly influencing the layout, scale and orientation of development as well as the positions of the office content.

By responding to these safety parameters from the outset, the masterplan established an appropriate relationship between the proposed built form, surrounding land uses and the COMAH constraints. Early consultation with the refinery and the HSE, ensured a coherent, deliverable and well-considered scheme could be presented to our client from an early design stage.

The masterplan also incorporated site-wide infrastructure including new access locations, parking, servicing areas, landscaping and drainage. Existing trees to the site boundaries were retained in their entirety to help soften the built form and integrate the new buildings within the established surrounding context.
