Cotton Works Block A,
Wigan
Client: The Heaton Group
This project forms the first phase of a major residential regeneration at the historic Eckersley Mills complex in Wigan, delivering 179 contemporary one- and two-bedroom apartments across five storeys as part of a wider 850-home masterplan.
The new building replaces the former Grade II Listed Mill 2, which had suffered irreparable structural damage following ground movement and roof collapse. The design responds carefully to the site’s industrial heritage, taking clear cues from the original mill through its alignment, rhythm of regular glazed openings, and the use of recessed feature brickwork.
The building’s scale and height reflect those of the original structure and the adjacent Mills 1 and 3, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into the evolving masterplan while sitting comfortably between these dominant historic neighbours.
